About
Jeju's civilization arrived by sea and from the northern mainland alike — scattering, gathering, and transforming into the island's present-day ecology and way of life. The 5th Jeju Biennale takes that dynamic as its subject, borrowing its key concept 'Iyahong' from the refrain of a folk song that itself drifted in from the mainland and became native. Anchored at the Jeju Museum of Art with satellite venues including the Jeju Stone Park's Obaekjanggun Gallery (free with a biennale ticket), it presents an aesthetics of survival shaped by nature, human life, and the sacred.
